Aberystwyth Castle is one of the town's defining landmarks, standing beside the seafront with wide views over Cardigan Bay. The ruined stonework seen today is the remains of a major medieval fortress associated with Edward I's campaigns in Wales, later damaged by coastal weathering, conflict, and reuse of its stone.
The open castle grounds are an easy stop on a walk between the promenade, harbour, and old college. Look for the surviving towers, wall lines, war memorial, and the nearby Gorsedd stones, which together make this one of Aberystwyth's richest historic viewpoints.
