Town Councils

Responsibilities: Town Councils deal with some local issues. Most things they can not control unless they negotiate with County Council. In Aberystwyth, Town Council mainly organises events, tries to get grants to bring improvement projects to the town, and is looking after our green spaces and allotments. They work with County Council to keep our streets tidy.

Your 19 Town Councillors are your neighbours who are elected to voice your concerns to County Council and one becomes Mayor each year.

They are not paid for their work and are supported by a few paid staff members.
Each May a different councillor becomes mayor for the year. The Town Council’s base is Neuadd Gwenfrewi – the old St Winefride’s Church Presbytery in Queens Road. https://www.aberystwyth.gov.uk/en/
